On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a ceasefire in Gaza could be reached within a week. He made the remarks during a White House event celebrating a peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

Trump said he had just spoken with individuals directly involved in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and expressed confidence that an agreement was imminent.

Israeli media reports indicated that President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio held phone discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer. These conversations reportedly resulted in mutual understandings aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza within two weeks.

According to Israel Hayom, the proposed deal includes the release of hostages held by Hamas and the relocation of remaining Hamas leadership to other countries. This would be part of a broader resolution designed to ease tensions in the region.

The report also states that Israel is open to exploring a long-term resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on a two-state solution, conditional upon internal reforms within the Palestinian Authority.

In return, the United States would recognize partial Israeli sovereignty over certain areas of the West Bank. This would be part of a wider agreement that involves expanding the Abraham Accords to include additional nations, potentially even Syria.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Yair Lapid called on Thursday for ending the Gaza war through a hostage deal, arguing that Israel’s current military actions in the region are ineffective.
