Russian drones launched overnight attacks on several Ukrainian cities, targeting residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, in a renewed escalation of aerial warfare amid the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kyiv.
Civilian Casualties and Infrastructure Damage in Southern Ukraine
At least 11 people were injured in the southern
Kherson region, according to regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin. The drone
strikes reportedly damaged a gas pipeline, a fuel station, a car repair
workshop, and private vehicles.
Children Among the Injured in Eastern Ukraine
In the eastern city of Chuhuiv, three civilians were
wounded, including a 12-year-old child, after a drone strike hit the
area. Oleg Synegubov, the military governor of the Kharkiv region, also
confirmed two additional injuries in the nearby city of Kupyansk.
Air Defenses Activate Over Kyiv Amid Nationwide Alerts
Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, witnessed active anti-aircraft
fire through the night, prompting residents to seek shelter in underground
metro stations and bomb shelters. Air raid sirens sounded across multiple
regions, including Sumy, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia. No
immediate reports of injuries or damages were recorded in those regions.
Ukraine Retaliates with Drone Strikes Inside Russia
In a counteroffensive, Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted
sites within Russian territory. Russian officials stated that hostile drones
were intercepted over Rostov in the south and Smolensk,
southwest of Moscow.
War Enters New Phase of Aerial Confrontation
These developments mark a continued intensification of drone
warfare between the two nations, as fighting persists along multiple fronts
since the outbreak of war in February 2022. Both sides are increasingly
relying on unmanned aerial systems for strikes, with civilian zones frequently
caught in the crossfire.
