Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi |
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Saturday with Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, in the presence of Hamid Al-Safi, political advisor to the speaker, and General Hassan Rashad, head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service.
During the meeting, President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s firm
and consistent stance in support of Libya’s unity and national
institutions. He emphasized the importance of preserving Libya’s sovereignty
and territorial integrity, while intensifying efforts to reach a comprehensive
political settlement that would enable simultaneous presidential and
parliamentary elections as soon as possible—meeting the aspirations of the
Libyan people for security and stability.
Egypt’s Role in Libyan Stability and Security
Presidency spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that
President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to ongoing engagement and
coordination with all Libyan stakeholders and relevant international
actors. He stressed Cairo’s belief that Libya’s political and security
stability is inherently linked to Egypt’s own national security.
President El-Sisi also underlined the need for all
foreign forces and mercenaries to withdraw from Libyan territory, as their
exit is essential to restoring national security and enabling Libyan
institutions to fully perform their functions in stabilizing the country.
Egypt’s Willingness to Support Reconstruction Efforts
In addition, El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s readiness to contribute to Libya’s reconstruction by sharing Egypt’s development expertise and supporting the country's rebuilding efforts. This, he noted, is part of Egypt’s broader commitment to helping the Libyan people achieve a better and more stable future.
